Maura Volante, B.Ed, has been teaching vocal music since 1979, developing her own curricula over the years for adults and children. Her approach assumes that everyone can sing, that it is a healthy and peasurable activity, and that it is a basic human right. The more people sing, the better they get. Maura offers techniques for improving the sound, but she has come to the conclusiong that the best way to sing better is to sing often. Her goal is to help people make singing a regular part of life.
Maura works primarily with groups. She has noticed that most people are not aiming for performance but simply want to regain the joy of singing that we all have as children but tend to lose along the way. For this, people need a positive experience so that they will keep doing it, and get better and better and enjoy it more and more. Singing in groups gives people confidence and a positive experience of their own voices, because the group helps people sing stronger and more in tune. Later, when singing alone or with family and friends, people remember that experience and it helps them keep on singing. Most of Maura’s teaching is offered to groups that already exist or form part of a larger gathering such as a conference or festival. If you belong to an organization or are planning a gathering, consider including a songcircle (see Songcircle page for details), a singing class or workshop as part of the program. Whether you sing with Maura in a classroom, a home, a festival, the woods or a conference hall, you will experience the following kinds of skill development:

Music of the Moment can be adapted for any community gathering and is suitable for adults, youth and school-aged children. WoodsWalk Singing Come sing on guided walks in the woods, taking inspiration from the plants and animals, creating new songs and singing old favourites. Include a woodswalk singing session in a camp program, a school field trip, a workplace or organizational retreat or simply a gathering of friends. view poster Community Choir If you have a community choir looking for a director, Maura can work with you to enhance your sound, whether you use written arrangements or work entirely by ear. A choir can also be fun as a temporary group, meeting over a weekend or a few weeks to prepare for a specific performance, and then disbanding. Consider a choir for your next conference, festival or workplace gathering. SoundPlay for Preschoolers A workshop or ongoing class for young children, using appropriate songs and games incorporating singing, movement and listening activities. Suitable for preschool programs, daycare centres, parties and camps. |
We Are Here
By Maura Volante We are here, in this place And our roots are growing deeper. We are here, in this place, And our branches reach so high. We are here, in this place, And we intertwine our branches. We are here, in this place, Join together Earth and Sky. We are here.. And we bloom in many colours. We are here.. As we grow beneath the sun. We are here.. And our branches weave together. We are here.. And together we are one.
